We all know that iMessage groups are annoying especially when you seem stuck in it and cant get out.
I have been seeing this growing issue with iOS 8 “Leaving or muting/do not disturb” option when in a group text. I have already had several people come up to me asking me if I could fix it. I personally have not had this problem with my phone, but I only used it once. I have been successful at fixing some peoples iPhone and some not. Here are the things I have tried that may or may not work for you. Hope it does!
1. Did you turn it off and on again?
I know, everyone hates it when I tell them to do that first, but it’s very true. About 99% of all issues that I fix come from restarting and YES, this did work once for someone.
2. Backup and Restore
Im sure you probably just got your phone exactly like you want it with the new iOS 8/iPhone 6, but I had someone make sure they had a good backup on iCloud. Then erase all content and settings on the iPhone and restore it again. Here is how you do this.
Go to Settings > iCloud > Backup
First you are going to want to make sure you are backing up your phone have a good and backup?as well in iCloud. This is backing up using the iPhone itself with out having to plug the iPhone into iTunes. Which is my preferred way of doing it.
Then you are going to want to first make sure your backup switch is turned on and check the date of your latest back up. If you prefer to backup right then you simply hit “Back Up Now” Once that backup is complete then you are ready to reset your phone. Again don’t worry, you will get everything back, but make sure you toggle the switches to the different areas you want to backup. Pictures and Contacts are going to be your most important. If you have to many pictures to backup without having to pay Apple more money then read my other post about how to backup your photos in the cloud for free.
Once you have a good backup of your phone, now you can reset your phone back to defaults
Go to Settings > General > Reset
Then click on “Erase All Content and Settings”
Now at this point once the phone is done resetting to defaults then you can choose to restore your phone from a iCloud backup. Then see if that fixes your leave group text messages issue.
3. Respring your iPhone
What the heck is respring? Well unless you have had a jailbroken phone you are never going to have to deal with this. To respring your iPhone basically means restarting your software without having to restart the actual iphone. Hey I know it may not make sense but it does work.
Usually you can easily do this when you have a jailbroken phone, but there is a trick to doing it with a iPhone that is not jailbroken. Here is a video to show you how to do it.
